Sabre Team Classic Amiga game

1992 classic Amiga game - strategy games

When reaching for this game, it is hard to guess what to expect. It is supposedly about the operations of special forces, but after all it is a strategy game... But on the other hand, don’t the special forces operations resemble a game of chess? I agree that it is perhaps a bit faster, shots are often fired, the participants wear balaclavas and there are usually more bystanders, but... No, actually, it does not resemble chess at all. Never mind, let’s move on to the content of the game itself.

First, I must point out an important detail - the game action is divided into turns, with movement points, time limits, etc. In this respect, Sabre Team is very similar to UFO: Enemy Unknown. The second important thing is that every move of the character is presented in great detail. By the way, a small note - you must always remember to reload your weapon so that at a critical moment the opponent does not catch you with your pants down. Well, maybe I exaggerated about the pants, but so that they do not catch you with an empty magazine.

What else is important in this game? Diversity of missions. Although each involves rescuing hostages, the first involves an attack on a prisoner of war camp in the jungle, and the second on an embassy building. Contrary to appearances, these are really very different gameplays, both in terms of weapon selection and movement around the area. Additionally, our soldiers not only signal that they see an enemy, but can also suggest from which direction they hear an approaching enemy.

How could I sum up this argument? Very briefly - the game doesn’t look too bad, the sound is poor at best, but if someone gets into its atmosphere, they will probably spend many hours in front of the screen. At least that was the case for me.
