1996 classic Amiga game - sport games

Just like many other British football manager games this one is also based on the most overused scenario there is - take a poor quality club from lowest division and raise it to the top. The only thing that is different in British Manager is that the divisions we are playing contain teams from England and Scotland (thus the title British Manager).

The game can hardly be called innovative, quite opposite - in 1996 it contained as little informations about the players and matches as Spectrum or C64 football managers. The player skills are represented by single value (between 1 and 10), their position is simplified to just formation (goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, attacker) and we can’t see the squads of other clubs. The training screen raises some questions as well - since players have only one, main skill, value why we can choose different training options for technical parameters (like passing, shooting, tackling) since they are not available to see anywhere?

Similar story with the matches - we see the animations presenting goal attempts, but there no statistics at all, no matter if you want the data about the whole team performance or any of the players - it’s just not there.

It is hard to find a positive side of British Manager, it was a low budget or even no budget production that used the concepts known in football managers from their early days and did not added much to the genre.
