League Challenge Classic Amiga game

1991 classic Amiga game -

In 1991 there was much demand for soccer management games in Great Britain, which put on the market a lot of semi-baked products and League Challenge is one of the glowing examples of that tendency. Here we have a game that is clearly a copy of early Spectrum games of the genre with very limited range of options and interface that far from being user-friendly. To be exact the interface is limited to few lines of the text and any options were activated by using keyboard, which was neither comfortable nor a up-to-date solution.

But the interface was just a tip of the iceberg - although we can control any of the professional teams in England in their aspiration to reach the championship in fact we always start with exactly the same players no matter which team we choose. Through training and transfers we can improve our time and... I’ve just described the whole game. It’s simple: check the lineup, click the key to see the next result, review the transfer offer and repeat the process. There is absolutely nothing more to deal with - no statistics, no match data (you don’t even know who scored goals for you), no fixtures list, there are not even goalkeepers in your team.

League Challenge was clearly a rushed project that was based on Spectrum games and even though Amiga in 1991 offered good graphic capabilities the creators did not even try to make any use of them (f.e. The Manager was published in the same year).
