1990 classic Amiga game - action-adventure games

Sid Meier’s Covert Action is one of the titles that can be called timeless, not because there was something groundbreaking when it comes to graphics, audio or gameplay, but because it is a complex game that once you get hooked will never let go of you.

You are a CIA agent and you are given a handful of clues and order to prevent the crime the bad guys are planning to do. The clues can have form of addresses of hideouts, names of the participants, encoded messages, bank withdrawal documents, etc. It is not much to start on, but you have a lot of ways to choose from how you can approach your mission.

You can play stealthy: place wiretaps, install bugs in rooms, intercept or encode messages, observe hideouts. You can be less subtle: break into the buildings, get through their computers, safes, shoot some of them or follow them to find other addresses. You can also mix both ways or invent your own way - it is completely up to you how you gonna perform your duty. The only important thing is that you stop the crime and, if possible, catch the people involved, including the mastermind.

All of the elements of the game are pretty standard minigames put together, like placing wiretap, exploring buildings, decoding messages, fight in top-down view, etc. but all of them fit perfectly together to create an almost perfect game. Of course not for everyone, but at least for some.

Why? Because there is one more factor to take under consideration - there are 4 different difficulty levels, which separate simple operations from potential global crisis, but also each mission is procedurally generated, which means you can play completely different operation each time you fire up Covert Action.

One of the overlooked gems of early 1990s comparable to other Sid Meier productions, like Civilization, Pirates! or Railroad Tycoon.
